About

Portrait of Viha Tripathi

Hi! I'm Viha, an Electrical Engineering student at McMaster University with a passion for technology, innovation, and problem-solving.

Through my co-op experiences at Flowserve and Hammond Power Solutions, I've gained hands-on experience in electrical design, control systems, instrumentation, and engineering simulation. I'm passionate about applying my technical knowledge to real-world challenges and exploring new areas of engineering.

Outside the classroom, you'll find me on a hiking trail or behind a sketchbook :)

Projects

01

CMOS XOR Gate

Apr 2025 · Hamilton, ON

A 12-transistor CMOS XOR designed, simulated, and built from discrete PMOS/NMOS. Sized transistor ratios for ideal switching and measured rise/fall time and propagation delay on the scope, with correct logic despite real-world sizing constraints.

Voltage-Controlled Switch

Mar 2025 · Hamilton, ON

Two MOSFET-based switch circuits characterized for ON/OFF resistance, leakage current, and bidirectionality. Measured results matched theory with small deviations in a hands-on study of real-device trade-offs.

Single Transistor Amplifier

Mar 2025 · Hamilton, ON

A 2N3904 common-collector (emitter-follower) stage designed as a buffer: high input impedance, low output impedance, ~0.9 gain between a 100 Ω source and load. Midband gain, linearity, and low harmonic distortion verified in simulation and on the bench.

AC to DC Converter

Feb 2025 · Hamilton, ON

A DC supply delivering 10 mA at 3 V ±0.1 V from a 120 V (rms) 1 kHz input, using a center-tapped full-wave rectifier and filter capacitor. Simulated and measured regulation held within tolerance despite diode drops and capacitor tolerances.

3D Spatial Mapping Sensor

Jan 2025 – Mar 2025

A 360° indoor scanning system: a VL53L1X time-of-flight sensor on a stepper motor collects distance data every 11.25°, the microcontroller streams angle–distance pairs over UART, and a Python app renders live 2D/3D point clouds with Open3D.

Automated Robotic Waste Sorting System

A line-following robot that detects recyclable materials by sensor and deposits containers into the right bins. Arm motion, hopper interaction, and sorting logic were validated in a Quanser simulation before building the 3D-printed, laser-cut physical prototype.

SwiftSnake

Fall 2024

Two-player Snake in C++ built on custom data structures: dynamic arrays and a linked-list queue drive movement, food spawning, growth, and collision detection, with clean separation of game logic, rendering, and input handling.

Experience

Jan 2026 – Sep 2026

Electrical Engineering Intern

Flowserve Canada · Guelph, ON

  • Modernized control systems on industrial pump packages, upgrading controllers and bringing the systems back online for commissioning.
  • Wired, powered up, and functionally tested pump skids and control panels, delivering tested multi-pump systems for customer handoff.
  • Built and maintained equipment and wire tagging from P&IDs, keeping documentation matched to as-built wiring.
  • Owned the full documentation cycle (customer submittals and revision control in Windchill and SAP) across 5 major industrial projects.

Sep 2025 – Dec 2025

Electrical Design Intern

Hammond Power Solutions · Guelph, ON

  • Led a full finite-element study in SolidWorks Flow Simulation on electrical enclosures: built the models, drove them to convergence, and used the results to flag real design risks.
  • Wrote up the findings in technical reports and defended them in design reviews with the engineering team.
